Happy Birthday, Baby!

Another evening at Oberon April 13th was spent salon-ing featuring cellist Malachi Brown, opera singer Shreya Bhadriraju, and drag queen Harsh Babe to celebrate two years of Salon Avec Moi.

I took to Google to find out what a two year old is supposed to be achieving and found out that at two years old, if you’re developing in all things typical for milestones, you’re starting to gain mobility, gaining a bigger verbal vocabulary, imitating actions, building things, and showing a bigger range of emotion—so how does this look like in terms of growth for Salon Avec Moi?

We’ve expanded into a media company from starting out just as merely salon events from the very beginning, opening up the conversation from classical music (and I’ll be honest a lot of opera because I’m biased) to all of the classical arts. This post alone from Chalamet’s comments gained traction with 222,819 views, 15.1K likes, 3.1K shares, 328 reposts, and 463 saves. We’ve connected with friends all over including a featured interview with opera singer and New Zealand kiwi Emily Mwila at HiLot on her time at The Metropolitan Opera and beyond along with other features with Creatine Price, Eva Ding, Rachael Tarravechia, and more. We’ve found a special, intimate, queer home with new bar Oberon in Williamsburg (and praise we’re not making you schlep to Bushwick all the time anymore). Our guests are, dare I say, even more fashionable and fabulous as we expand to new eyes, a steady place to land, and a broader meaning of what Salon Avec Moi entails along with new, talented contributors writing articles to keep tabs on the cool, queer art that’s happening around us.

It’s easy to never be satisfied with the amount of growth or where things are. As an Aries with a double Libra I want more, more, more, and I want it now, but taking stock of what happened in this last year, damn girl! That two year old hit her millstones just fine!

Brief pause to look at how fun Something Sweeter salon on Monday was featuring Harsh Babe.

Of course we have a good time with art, fashion, and friends at each salon but this salon also raised $260 for our friend’s transition surgery fund AND $200 from Harsh Babe’s tips which she announced she would be donating to Jewish Voice for Peace.

Salons prove time and again that the party is the revolution and that classical art can be a part of it.

This salon we also welcomed guests C’est Jeanne, creators of couture, bespoke gloves that have been featured in every fashion magazine and celebrity you could ever imagine from Anne Hathaway to Ariana Grande. Needless to say this won’t be the last time you hear about them with Salon Avec Moi, so be sure to get to supporting them and keeping your eyes here in the coming months.

To keep things short, thank you to everyone who has helped grow this two year old. With only me truly at the helm of it I couldn’t possibly keep raising Salon Avec Moi and pushing it to where I want it to be without you.

Pretend I’m holding up a glass here or, I don’t know, maybe a smash cake….cheers to two years together. Can’t wait for this next one.
