Créatine Price Believes Classical Music Can Be Gayer

Drag Queen and international operatic star Créatine Price took a moment with us to share what it’s like to be home to perform their upcoming show The Drag Messiah, a gay twist on Handel’s iconic masterpiece, with Chamber Queer and hopes for the future.

Tell me about your inspiration for Drag Messiah.

The inspiration for The Drag Messiah came from the many "Drunk Messiah’s " I saw advertised over the years. I thought to myself: Handel would have been obsessed with a gayer version of this. I saw my monthly show at Red Eye as an opportunity to create a Messiah with an actual drag string quartet and continuo, make it raunchy and gay, and hire my friends, who are incredible musicians.

You’ve had a whirlwind of a year in Europe. How does performing in NYC compare?

Being back in NYC is coming home. I have been so blessed but this is the best nightlife ever. European bars don’t tip queens- what’s up with that?

What are you looking forward to most with Drag Messiah after just getting back from a concert with BBC?

I’m looking forward to being back on a stage being my silly and cunty self. Being on the BBC is glamorous but I need the raunchy sh*t back in my bloodstream. Like, baroque music is so cunty!

With 2025 quickly coming to a close, do you have any wishes for the new year?

Wishes for the new year always include fatter checks, bigger orchestras, more opera roles, and more making classical music gay as hell. Also I want to put together a das lied von der Erde in a gay bar. Can it happen?

Any lessons from the year you’d like to take into 2026 as Creatine Price, Jordan, or both?

Lessons from Créatine: pack light, get the money upfront, and always keep the passaggio covered.

Lessons from Jordan: you are capable of everything you’ve ever wanted. You cannot fail unless you deem it so.

Other than seeing the wonderful, talented artist you are, why should people come to Drag Messiah?

Thank you 💅🏽 people should come to the Drag Messiah because we need to continue access points of music education in all spaces possible. Whether that’s a gay bar/sex club, or in a fabulous media venture like Salon avec moi. Using classical music to create space for queer art is a work of honor and respect.

The Drag Messiah takes place November 30th and December 1st at 7pm at Red Eye NYC with limited tickets available.

Grab your tickets while they last here.
